Generative engine optimization (GEO) focuses on making business pages useful sources for AI-generated answers. Google treats GEO as part of search engine optimization (SEO). Its official advice recommends accessible pages, accurate facts, and useful original content.
Use the next 30 days to improve one important page. Test buyer questions, fix missing details, and record what AI tools show. Thirty days is a review period, not a promise of rankings or citations.
Start With One Page That Helps Buyers Decide
Choose one page that can bring a call, quote request, or order. A service, product, or category page may work. Avoid starting with a broad blog when buyers need service terms or delivery details.
Consider a hypothetical office-cleaning company serving Pune. Office managers may ask about visit times, areas served, and contract terms. The company could start with its main office-cleaning service page.
Days 1–7: Record Buyer Questions and Check Search Access
Start with four to six questions customers might ask before buying. Check recent calls and enquiry emails for the words buyers use. Add a city, product type, or service condition when it changes the answer.
For the Pune cleaning example, test questions such as:
- Which office-cleaning companies serve Baner, Pune?
- Can I book office cleaning outside normal business hours?
- What tasks are included in a weekly office-cleaning contract?
- How can I compare quotes from office-cleaning companies in Pune?
Test the questions in ChatGPT Search and Google AI Mode, where available. Save each question, date, test location, AI service, business names, and cited URLs. Record any wrong details about your company. Repeat the same questions at the end of the month.
Manual tests record answers to those questions on those dates. They cannot measure every AI search or establish a fixed ranking.
Check Google Indexing and AI Search Access
Open URL Inspection in Google Search Console for the chosen page. Check if Google indexed the page. Also inspect the chosen canonical, the main URL Google selected. A page must be indexed and eligible for a search snippet before Google can show it as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode.
Next, open Settings → Search generative AI in Search Console. Check that your site is included in AI search features. See the official Search Console instructions for the available choices.
For ChatGPT Search, ask your developer to inspect robots.txt for OAI-SearchBot. OpenAI uses that crawler for search. The separate GPTBot crawler relates to model training. Ask your developer to check firewall and CDN rules too. Read the official OpenAI crawler documentation.
Even a page that search tools can access may receive no citations.
Days 8–14: Answer the Buying Questions on Your Page
Use the questions you saved to update the chosen page. Put each answer under a heading that names the topic. Remove claims that tell customers nothing about the actual offer.
For the Pune example, list the areas served and cleaning tasks included. State the hours available and any extra charge for evening visits. If evening visits are unavailable, state that directly.
Show how customers can request a quote and what details they should send. Product sellers should include verified specifications, minimum order quantities, delivery areas, and return terms. Publish a price only when its amount and conditions are current.
Days 15–21: Match Public Details and Add Proof
Check the business name, phone number, address, hours, and service areas across your website. Correct old details on the business profiles you control. Local companies can review Google Business Profile; retailers can review Google Merchant Center. Google recommends keeping these details current.

Add proof where a buyer may question a claim. Use a verified product sheet for size, weight, or material claims. Support service promises with written terms or a work checklist. Publish customer photos and reviews only with permission.
A cleaner could compare tasks included in routine and deep cleaning. A supplier could compare verified sizes or materials for similar products. Link the resource from the relevant service or product page. Skip a new article if the current page already answers the question well.
Describe only services and results your company can support. Include service limits and exclusions when buyers need them.
Days 22–30: Compare AI Visibility With Business Enquiries
Review the same buyer questions from week one. Record which companies appear, which pages AI services link to, and any wrong details. Check official reports separately from calls, forms, and orders.
| Source | What you can check | What it cannot confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | Link impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, grouped by page, country, device, or date | Separate AI click totals or sales |
| Bing Webmaster Tools | Citation counts, cited pages, and related grounding queries | Exact customer prompts or enquiries |
| Your saved AI questions | Mentions and source links for the questions you tested | Your full share of AI search visibility |
| Website analytics and enquiry records | Tracked visits, forms, calls, and orders | That an AI mention caused a sale |
The Google Generative AI performance report shows link impressions, without separate AI click totals. If the report is absent, your site may have too few impressions. The Bing AI Performance report shows sampled citation activity. Its grounding queries are short retrieval phrases, not complete customer questions.
Save the page edit dates beside your results. Look for changes in cited pages and the accuracy of business details. Treat 30-day findings as observations; search systems can take longer to revisit a page.
Avoid GEO Shortcuts That Add No Buyer Value
Google does not require llms.txt, special GEO schema, or tiny text sections for its AI search features. Google also warns against fake mentions and mass-produced pages targeting search variations. Other AI services may use different methods. Check the official Google guidance before buying a special GEO tactic.
Accurate page content, useful internal links, and sound SEO remain worth doing. AI citations depend on each search platform, so no business can guarantee inclusion.
Use the 30-Day Results to Choose Your Next Page
Review the records before starting another article or page refresh:
- Page missing from Google: Investigate indexing and access first.
- Wrong contact or service details: Correct the original page and affected profiles.
- Buyer question left unanswered: Add the verified answer to the right page.
- Page cited, few enquiries: Review the offer, contact details, and enquiry form.
Keep the prompt log, page changes, screenshots, and reports together. Use them to select the next page with a specific buyer need. For technical details, read the AI search visibility audit from SEO Noida.
